Yamil Sanchez Rivera departs PNLV for new position with United Way of Berks County

Yamil Sanchez, Executive Director of Promise Neighborhood of the Lehigh Valley, has accepted a new position as Senior Vice President Community Impact with United Way Berks County and is leaving his position with PNLV for this new role, which he begins on Monday, November 7.

Yamil joined the PNLV team as its Executive Director in 2014, when the organization was under the auspices of United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley. However Yamil’s accomplishments during his short time with us are many:

  • Starting with just the Allentown Promise Neighborhood location in the city’s downtown, he lead the organization into Easton’s West Ward and Bethlehem’s Southside and Pembroke neighborhoods to create the Easton Promise Neighborhood and Bethlehem Promise Neighborhood, respectively, as well as expanded the work in Allentown to align with city efforts.
  • Knowing the need for accurate information on the quality of life of residents in each neighborhood, he worked with committee volunteers and PNLV staff to develop resident surveys which served to establish the vital baseline data the organization would need in order to achieve its goals as outlined by the nine Promises under which all Promise Neighborhoods operate. That data was then shared with partner nonprofit agencies across the Lehigh Valley.
  • He developed a series of annual Neighborhood Block Parties in each city to help connect residents with service providers in the community.
  • Under his leadership the organization obtained its own nonprofit 501c3 tax-exempt status in 2015.
  • He worked tirelessly with staff and community leaders in the Lehigh Valley’s three cities, as well as with many community partner organizations and funders, to share his vision for the organization and his passion for community impact.

During this time of transition in leadership, APN Manager Amanda Raudenbush will serve as lead contact for the organization under the guidance and direction of the PNLV Board of Directors.
